I am happy to say that my four entries placed well in the American Art Awards 2013. Twenty five galleries across the United States jury this competition and I am glad they felt my artwork was deserving of the awards. Now to get back to work or should I say play?
I was told that the Southwest was a fantastic holiday destination for artists, art lovers and collectors and it turned out to be true. The New Mexico state motto is "land of enchantment" because of its scenic beauty, rich history and wonderful people. I finally understand why Georgia O'Keeffe travelled there and stayed. The museum with her namesake is in Santa Fe and a docent gave us a great presentation of the artist and exhibit. I took a very interesting printmaking workshop with Carrie Quade at New Mexico Artspa (what a coincidence). Using terracotta clay as our matrix, we layered and embedded coloured slip into the clay and created wonderful monoprints. Hiking at Tent Rocks and Bandelier Monument was inspiring and I know future artworks will come from the views. Canyon Road is an art lover/collector's dream...over one hundred galleries, boutiques and restaurants in one half mile. A feast for the eyes, soul and stomach! We ended our holiday with a drive to Monument Valley with its world famous red buttes and mesas on the Utah-Arizona border. Then on to the Grand Canyon where the views are breathtaking...I wish everyone could see it as it is impossible to describe! 1400 photos in 12 days and all the images in my brain that are still being processed will inspire new artworks! Stay tuned.

Uptown Gallery Hop evening of August 16th.
I have had a very busy and creative first half of 2013! After two solo shows and participating in a number of group shows, I thought I should apply to enter the SCA 45th Open Annual National Exhibit. "Sweet Surrender" (12x12) is the painting that is on its way to Montreal!
I have to thank VP of Exhibitions, Steve Wilson, SCA, Ann Kruzelecky and all the volunteers for organizing another great exhibit. It is not an easy task!
Here is a list of all the entries.

Colour Fields 30x30
How do you communicate how you feel when you see a brilliantly colourful never ending tulip field? It is pure joy and exhilaration. I have tried to express this in a series of colour fields and tulip paintings that are being exhibited at Art Sales & Rentals, Halifax for the month of June. Please join me on Sunday, June 9th from 2pm - 4pm for some art talk, gouda cheese and speculaas cookies.
Lunenburg Art Gallery
If you haven't been to Lunenburg then what are you waiting for. It was designated a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1995 and for good reason. Here is a link to learn more http://www.explorelunenburg.ca/tourism/
When you get there make sure you drop into the Lunenburg Art Gallery, a non profit organization founded in 1972. My exhibit "Inspiration, Meditation" is on until June 16th http://www.lunenburgartgallery.com/index.htm
The opening was on Tuesday, May 21st and I had a lot of fun speaking with all the art enthusiasts, artists and friends in attendance. It is always daunting putting your work out there for all to see. I believe art is autobiographical. We leave a little bit of ourselves in every piece we create. Some have found news homes and I hope they bring a little joy to the collectors!
May 2013 is proving to be a very busy art month, including many opportunities to sell and exhibit my artwork in Atlantic Canada and Quebec.
I do appreciate the dedication and hard work of gallery owners, curators, jurors and art enthusiasts for organizing these exhibits, and believing in and buying the artists work. It can be a perfect symbiotic relationship!

Out of the Blues (20x16) mixed media
I am pleased to announce that Trinity Galleries in Saint John will be representing me in New Brunwick. It is an honour to show my work in the company of so many exemplary artists that Trinity Galleries represents.
An artist/gallery relationship is one that is based on mutual respect and honesty. Both parties endeavour to participate equally. The artist working hard creating beautiful artwork and the gallerist believing in the artwork and representing the artist by exhibiting/selling the art to collectors and enthusiasts.
.................oh and did I mention that "3" is my lucky number!
