I am thrilled to be one of the winners of the AcrylicArtworks 2: Radical Breakthroughs contest. My work along with 115 artworks by other artists, out of over 1200 submissions, will be published in a book in the coming year. I enjoy the challenge of acrylics with other mediums to express my artworks. I am delighted to participate in "Spring Fresh", a group exhibit at the Carroll's County Arts Centre in Westminster, Maryland. Susan Williamson, CCAC Visual Arts Coordinator, jewelry artist, Fine Arts Professor at Carroll Community College and traveller extraordinaire, invited me to participate in an exhibit featuring Karen Peacock, Minad Konsolas, Leah Spencer, Claudia Olivos, Sergio Olivos and Lesley Giles. Spring Fresh opens on March 4th and runs until April 5th.
I said yes when Katherine J. Barrett, editor Understorey Magazine, contacted me about featuring "Rooted" with one of the short stories published in its first edition. Here is the link to "On My Dining Room Table" written by Sylvia D. Hamilton. I think the art complements the story.....enjoy.
Dancing With Trees - Swoon Fine Art Gallery
opening on Saturday, November 9th at 2pm.
My small childhood home was canopied by a gigantic backyard elm tree. The sun shining behind its leaves through my bedroom window left a deep impression. It had a life of its own, always dancing and changing with the wind and weather.
This exhibit is all about my deep desire to anthropomorphize trees, (we all do it) and to share these expressions of art with the viewer.
“Tangled Up in You” is about new love and a first dance, do you remember how it made you tremble.
“Dancing After Midnight” connotes the sensual moonlit hours when nocturnal escapades are not seen with clarity.
“Anniversary Waltz” speaks of soul mates, a little worn out and rusted but the heart and soul connection is the “key” to a long relationship. Another key in the painting is about the lustful connections of youth.
“Tree-O” is pure exhilaration and a joyous hallelujah…..while “Gnarly Pine” is flippin you the bird!
Every tree painting tells a story.......my story, perhaps your story.
I am happy to say that my four entries placed well in the American Art Awards 2013. Twenty five galleries across the United States jury this competition and I am glad they felt my artwork was deserving of the awards. Now to get back to work or should I say play?
I was told that the Southwest was a fantastic holiday destination for artists, art lovers and collectors and it turned out to be true. The New Mexico state motto is "land of enchantment" because of its scenic beauty, rich history and wonderful people. I finally understand why Georgia O'Keeffe travelled there and stayed. The museum with her namesake is in Santa Fe and a docent gave us a great presentation of the artist and exhibit. I took a very interesting printmaking workshop with Carrie Quade at New Mexico Artspa (what a coincidence). Using terracotta clay as our matrix, we layered and embedded coloured slip into the clay and created wonderful monoprints. Hiking at Tent Rocks and Bandelier Monument was inspiring and I know future artworks will come from the views. Canyon Road is an art lover/collector's dream...over one hundred galleries, boutiques and restaurants in one half mile. A feast for the eyes, soul and stomach! We ended our holiday with a drive to Monument Valley with its world famous red buttes and mesas on the Utah-Arizona border. Then on to the Grand Canyon where the views are breathtaking...I wish everyone could see it as it is impossible to describe! 1400 photos in 12 days and all the images in my brain that are still being processed will inspire new artworks! Stay tuned.

I have had a very busy and creative first half of 2013! After two solo shows and participating in a number of group shows, I thought I should apply to enter the SCA 45th Open Annual National Exhibit. "Sweet Surrender" (12x12) is the painting that is on its way to Montreal!
I have to thank VP of Exhibitions, Steve Wilson, SCA, Ann Kruzelecky and all the volunteers for organizing another great exhibit. It is not an easy task!
Here is a list of all the entries.

Colour Fields 30x30
How do you communicate how you feel when you see a brilliantly colourful never ending tulip field? It is pure joy and exhilaration. I have tried to express this in a series of colour fields and tulip paintings that are being exhibited at Art Sales & Rentals, Halifax for the month of June. Please join me on Sunday, June 9th from 2pm - 4pm for some art talk, gouda cheese and speculaas cookies.
